By buying an old cottage for pennies, she breathed new life into it. This small house, which once seemed hopelessly ruined, has been transformed into a cozy and stylish retreat.
“At first, the house looked completely different: broken windows, rotten floors, an overgrown garden and bushes. Its previous owners had long forgotten about the building and the plot, and it seemed the cottage’s fate was sealed — demolition awaited it. However, she saw its hidden beauty and the potential for transformation.
“The house was built in the 1970s and had an area of 76 square meters. There were also three outbuildings on the property, one of which was later turned into a small guest house.
The garden with apple trees also needed renovation. Real estate agents were offering only the land and the trees, considering the house a ruin. But she immediately understood that with renovation and restoration, it could be brought back to life.
“The old windows and the Russian stove were preserved and restored. The house now has everything necessary for comfortable living, including modern kitchen appliances, a shower, a toilet, and hot water. Furniture was found through classified ads, with vintage pieces being refurbished. The goal was to create a cozy space with personality — a contrast to large and monumental designs.
Special attention was given to the bathroom, which looks like one in a good hotel: a spacious bathtub, a vintage dresser, and wooden panels create a warm and cozy atmosphere.
The children’s room offers a view of the apple orchard, while the second bedroom features a full-size double bed. Unique decorative elements were chosen for the house, such as hummingbird wallpaper, which became a stylish accent.
“The house’s appearance has changed beyond recognition. The bright yellow façade blends beautifully with the greenery of the garden and the blue sky. Now it’s the perfect place for weekend getaways, picking vegetables for salads, and relaxing with a book in a hammock. An old house like this can truly be given a new lease on life.
