He spent decades walking 15 kilometers every day, wearing homemade clothes and leather boots. He commuted between his town and Sofia, Bulgaria, where he begged for alms all day. Incredibly, Dobrev never sought any compensation. He survived on just about $100 (around 1.4 million rupees) per month.
He donated all the money he had saved—over $50,000, or about 712 million rupees—to the orphanages in the city. He never kept a single penny of the money he earned. Some call him “The Saint of Baylovo,” where he was born. He is revered by all, known as “Dyado Dobri” (Grandfather Dobri), and represents acts of exceptional altruism.
