During the meeting, she suddenly felt unwell. When she woke up on a bench on the street, she saw an old man trying to take the gold bracelet off her wrist.

LIFE STORIES

Anna always tried to be the perfect employee. She listened to every word the director said, wrote everything down in her notebook, even when fatigue weighed heavily on her shoulders and her eyes could barely stay open. Her husband said she worked too much, but Anna convinced herself: “Everything is under control.” “The most important thing is not to disappoint anyone,” she repeated in her mind while sitting over reports at night.

But that day, something went wrong. During the meeting, she suddenly felt weak. First a slight dizziness, then the feeling that her legs stopped obeying her, her heart began racing, and the air in the room became thick, almost suffocating. She grabbed the edge of the table, quietly apologized, and tried to stand up, but barely kept her balance. The director said something, but his words vanished in the emptiness of her consciousness.

“What’s happening to me? Maybe it’s fatigue… no, this doesn’t feel like fatigue,” went through her mind. Panic slowly grew, and Anna realized: she needed to go outside.

Outside, it was cool, but it didn’t bring relief. Weakness intensified, her heart pounded wildly, and her hands were sticky with sweat. She slowly sat on a bench in the park, closed her eyes, and tried to take a few deep breaths. “I need to pull myself together… I must,” she whispered.

When she slightly opened her eyes, an old man was standing before her. He was over seventy, wearing a simple jacket, an old cap, and had a careful gaze. He leaned down and gently took her wrist.

— What are you doing? — Anna asked in a hoarse voice, trying to pull her hand away.

The old man calmly replied:

— Look at your bracelet.

Anna looked at the ornament and froze. The bracelet, which had always seemed beautiful and safe, had darkened in places where it touched her skin. Fear tightened in her chest.

— Who are you? — she asked.

—I have worked with jewelry for many years — the old man replied. — When I saw that you were feeling unwell, I immediately checked the bracelet. It had darkened where it touched your skin. Someone put something on it to harm you.

Anna remembered the past few weeks with her husband. His insistence: “Wear it, don’t take it off,” the strange glances, and the rare signs of concern now seemed disturbing. Everything formed a terrifying picture. “It can’t be… is this true?” she thought, feeling fear clutch her heart.

The old man carefully removed the bracelet and wrapped it in a handkerchief.

— Go to the doctors and the police immediately — he said. — And never wear it again.

Anna nodded, trembling, and gathered her strength. She first went to the nearest hospital. The doctors examined her and made sure she was fine. Then she went to the police, explaining in detail about the strange weakness and the old man.

On her way home, she analyzed the day’s events again. Every glance from her husband, every word, now seemed suspicious. It was a miracle she remained safe. Every day, Anna reminded herself: even the most ordinary things can hide danger. Sometimes vigilance is the only thing that saves a life.
