LIFE STORIES

A plumber is currently going viral for his noble mission: helping elderly and vulnerable people by repairing their plumbing for free.

Although everyone in a community could use some help from their neighbors and friends, we all know that those who need it the most are the elderly and the disabled. Out of fear of being seen as a burden, these individuals rarely ask for help, even when they truly need it. James, originally from Liverpool, insists that the client benefits from “lifetime free plumbing services.”

“We need to be a human race that looks out for one another.” While his act of kindness has made him famous online, James refuses to take all the credit, stating that his actions are “a community effort.

Others might wonder what the plumber gains from all these altruistic acts, and in simple terms, James says it makes him feel happy inside. “It makes me feel human, humble, and a little shy… I want to expand this service across the entire country. I will never give up the fight,” he said.

James hopes to extend the services he offers beyond Burnley, and the attention generated by the viral receipt could be very helpful. “I have other plumbers… who are offering help. My hope is to make Depher a nationwide service, in every city and every village,” said James.

“Your story about James Anderson, the caring plumber who charged $0 to repair an elderly woman’s heating system, was truly a joy to read.

I am 63 years old, also a plumber, semi-retired, and either I offered a large discount or, if the work took only 10 minutes, I didn’t charge.

My boss has never given me any problems, and, having a sick relative, he really understood how much our clients appreciated this. So hats off to James, you’re setting a great example for our colleagues.

Our work is extremely hard and sometimes dangerous, providing our services to the elderly is something they truly appreciate — Bruce Drury.
