Every morning, Patrick Mahomes did the same thing. His coffee was consistently black, robust, and perfectly brewed. As he drove to the studio, the neighborhood was still asleep and his car hummed along the peaceful suburban streets. He did notice one thing, though, and that was every morning.
Every day, a young girl, no more than eight years old, stood in the same location at the bus stop. Her energy seemed to light up the entire street, and she was petite, blonde, and had a brilliant smile. Her tiny hands gripped the straps of her Hello Kitty bag, and she would always wave at Patrick as he went past.
It was a brief instance. Most people would consider it inconsequential, but Patrick looked forward to it and it had become a part of his day. He would return the smile and occasionally, if the traffic signal was red, he would even honk the horn. Despite the fact that he had never seen her before, this little girl had somehow ingrained herself into his life on a daily basis.
However, the recognizable scene vanished one morning.
There was nobody on the street. Without the typical bright-eyed young girl waving at him, the bus station was quiet. Patrick felt sick to his stomach. The silence seemed strange and uncomfortable. Something was bothering him in the back of his mind, but he convinced himself it was nothing, that perhaps she was simply running late. He kept having the uneasy feeling that things wasn’t quite right.
He felt compelled to see how she was doing.
Patrick couldn’t stop thinking about the deserted bus stop for the next few mornings. Every day, he drove by it in the hopes that she would be there and wave. But the place was always empty, regardless of how many times he passed past. The young girl had vanished.
He couldn’t let it go for some reason.
Listening to his intuition was nothing new to Patrick. On the field, they had been of great assistance to him, helping him navigate numerous situations where the odds were stacked against him. But this felt different. He must have been aware of her fate.
After practice one day, he decided to take a different route and headed toward the neighborhood. He was aware that an elderly woman lived close by. She was outside all the time, sweeping her sidewalk with a devotion that bordered on religion. She looked up in astonishment as Patrick parked into her house’s driveway and got closer.
“Mr. Mahomes!” she cried out. “Why have you come here?”
Patrick gritted his teeth. “I just had a query. About the young girl who waits each day at the bus stop. Have you had a chance to see her?
The woman’s expression dimmed. “No, sweetheart. It’s been a few days since I last saw her. Rain or shine, she’s always there. It’s peculiar. Although her mother is constantly rushing and rarely speaks, she has never skipped class.
Patrick felt a heavy heart. “Are you aware of her residence? Or if someone is available to assist?
The elderly woman gave a nod. Sometimes I see her mom. Always in a rush to get out. However, there’s always shouting. Beyond that, I don’t know much.
In an attempt to repress the sensation that something was seriously amiss, Patrick balled his fists. “Are you familiar with her father?”
The elderly lady sighed. “I don’t directly know him, but I have heard of him. He hasn’t spent much time around people.
As he thanked the woman and drove off, Patrick’s stomach turned. His mind was racing. There was a problem. It sounded like this young girl’s home situation was anything but secure, and she had vanished without a trace.
Patrick couldn’t get rid of the feeling that night. He drove past the house once more the following morning. The lights were off and the drapes were drawn this time. It appeared as though the house had been abandoned overnight. After pulling his car to the curb, Patrick sat and gazed at the house for a while.
With his heart pounding, he decided. He was no longer able to ignore it.
He exited the vehicle and knocked on the door, but no one answered. He pounded again, more loudly, but nothing came. He started to walk away, but a faint sound—a quiet whimper, almost like a child’s cry—halted him.
A beat skipped in Patrick’s heart.
He knocked again, more forcefully. “Hey? Is there anybody present?
He heard a barely audible murmur, but there was no response. “Assist.”
Patrick’s breathing became labored. She was the young girl. She was in trouble, and she was inside.
Patrick slammed his shoulder into the door without thinking. The third time, it broke open. The house was quiet and dark inside. The chamber was barely lit by the dim glow from outside when he entered. Then he caught sight of her.
The young girl was squatting on the floor, shaking and bent. The straps on her ripped Hello Kitty backpack were slack. She clutched her knees to her breast, her tiny frame trembling. Her eyes were wide with agony and fear as she stared up at Patrick. Her skin was pallid and clammy, and dried tears marred her cheeks.
She recognized him right away.
As she rushed into his arms, Patrick knelt down, his heart exploding. He tried to reassure her by holding her close. “Hey, don’t worry. I’m present. You are now secure.
But when he stepped back and met her tear-streaked eyes, he saw the doubt and the terror. Gently, he inquired, “Where is your mother?”
“Gone,” she said as her lip trembled.
The word was like a kick to Patrick’s stomach. Lost. She had been left all by herself.
As he became aware of how serious the situation was, his mind raced. Something much worse was going on here, and the little child, Emily, was by herself. He realized he needed to move quickly.
Feeling the lightness of her, like a rag doll, he softly lifted her. She was too weak, chilly, and hardly conscious. With his heart racing with each step, Patrick hurried her to his car. He knew she couldn’t wait another minute, but he didn’t know what had happened to her. She required assistance.
He ignored the speed limit and went directly to the hospital, determined to bring Emily the assistance she required. Nurses and physicians were waiting for him when he pulled up. They recognized him right away, but he was only interested in seeking her assistance.
His voice was serious as he said, “She needs help now.”
Patrick was left standing outside, defenseless, as the physicians hurried to bring her inside. He had no choice but to wait.
Karen Dawson, the social worker, came up to him a few hours later. She responded, “Mr. Mahomes.” Although she was critically starved and dehydrated, she is currently stable. Additionally, we discovered bruises on her back and arms. This is something far worse than simple carelessness.
Patrick felt a knot in his stomach. He was hearing things he couldn’t believe.
“We’re looking for her family, but we haven’t found them yet,” Karen added. Although there is no record of her father, we are investigating him.
Patrick’s jaw tightened. Emily didn’t have any family or loved ones. Although he was aware that the system would place her in foster care, he also realized that this was not the solution. Emily needed someone who would take care of her and make sure she didn’t fall between the cracks.
“I wish to assist,” Patrick stated resolutely.
After examining him for a while, Karen nodded. “If you’re serious, we can begin the process, but we’ll need to follow the correct procedures.”
Patrick thus took on the role of Emily’s guardian. She will never be alone again, he assured her. He would be the one to provide her with the love and security she had never experienced.
The following day, Emily was awake and her cheeks were rosy with vitality once more when Patrick saw her. Hope had replaced the dread in her eyes. “You’re not alone, kiddo,” he remarked with a smile on his face. I will see to it that that happens.
A new chapter in their lives began with that commitment.
As Patrick Mahomes leaves for training camp, his daughter Sterling gives him a sweet farewell.
“Goodbye, dad!” In the video, 2-year-old Sterling states

Brittany Mahomes is sharing a cute photo of her daughter Sterling with quarterback Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs.
While Patrick, also 27, departed for football training camp on Tuesday, the 27-year-old mother of two sent a charming video on her Instagram Story. “Goodbye, Daddy!” Sterling is informed by Brittany. The child repeats, “Goodbye, dad.”
Brittany instructs her daughter to say, “I love you.” Sterling reiterates, “I love you.”
The co-owner of the Kansas City Current tells Sterling to “blow him kisses,” and as her father’s car leaves their driveway, Sterling reciprocates.

Brittany commented, “Sending @patrickmahomes off to camp,” on the video.
Brittany and Patrick have a 7-month-old son named Bronze and a daughter named Sterling. Since 2022, the two have been wed.
In an interview with CBS Mornings earlier this week, Patrick discussed his position in Netflix’s Quarterback and talked candidly about applying peer advise to his own family.
“I actually had a lengthy conversation about it with Peyton [Manning],” Mahomes stated. His statement, “At the end of my career, I wish I would have done it so my kids could have seen what I was doing every day,” is what has stayed with me.
The Super Bowl champion claimed that the remark “clearly hit me, having two kids.”
I wanted my children to understand that their father wasn’t just gone when he passed away. I was gone, building, being great, doing something. They can therefore see how hard I worked when they grew older,” he said.
The football player added that he wanted to set an example for his two children. He stated that he aspired to be someone the children could look up to and say, “Hey, I want to be like Patrick Mahomes.”

And it is my desire for parents to think, ‘Hey, that’s a guy I want my child to be like.’ I will thus play the game in that manner.
Sterling had the opportunity to swim with several dolphins during the Mahomes’ June trip to Hawaii with their family of four. Brittany shared pictures and videos on her Instagram to chronicle the thrilling day. Mother and daughter observed the dolphins from a bridge above the ocean in the initial pictures and videos.
“Sterling, what’s inside?” Brittany questioned her young daughter. The kid said, “Little fishes,” shortly after adding, “I see the dolphins!”
After being in awe by the scene, the mother-daughter prepared to get into the water and observe it up close. A picture of them exercising with the trainer and a posed Polaroid in which she held a tense-looking Sterling as the dolphin appeared right behind them and grinned were posted by the proud mother.
