A young woman didn’t ignore an elderly man who got lost in the park. The next day, something extraordinary happened to her.

LIFE STORIES

Anna was hurrying to the office after a business meeting with her partners.
To save time, she decided to cut through the city park. The sun was shining, but the cold wind from the river cut to the bone.

Pedestrians were rushing their own ways, paying no attention to each other. Anna also picked up her pace, afraid of being late for an important meeting. Suddenly, her eyes fell on a bench off to the side of the path.

An elderly man was sitting on the bench. Neatly dressed. He was staring thoughtfully into the distance. Something about his appearance made Anna slow down.

“Excuse me, could you tell me what time it is?” he asked when he noticed her.

“It’s half past one,” she replied, glancing at her watch.

The old man stood up and once again stared into the distance. Anna was about to walk away, but she noticed confusion in his eyes.

“Is everything alright? Do you need help?” she asked softly, stepping closer.

“I think I got lost,” he replied. “I went out for a walk and now I can’t find my way home.”

Anna sat down next to him. The meeting no longer seemed so urgent.

“Could you tell me your name?”
“Wiktor,” he said after a moment of thought.
“Do you remember the address or phone number of a family member?”

He focused, strained his memory, and slowly gave her an address and phone number. Anna took out her phone and dialed.
“Hello?” a male voice answered.
“Good afternoon. I’m with Wiktor in the city park. I think he got lost.”
“Dad?!” — there was relief in his voice. “Thank you, ma’am! I’m on my way. Please just stay with him.”

Anna returned to Wiktor and, seeing that he was clearly disoriented, tried to calm him down.

The wind made her shiver. On the other hand — there was an important meeting. But she couldn’t just leave the old man and walk away.

They started talking. Wiktor told her about his life, about his son who was always busy with work. Anna listened carefully, glancing at her watch from time to time.

After fifteen minutes, a black car pulled up to the park. A man around forty got out and approached quickly.

“Dad! I asked you not to go walking alone!”
“I thought I could manage, Sergius,” said Wiktor, embarrassed.

Sergius helped his father up, then turned to Anna:
“I don’t know how to thank you. It’s scary to think what could’ve happened. What’s your name?”

“Anna,” she replied.
“Anna, thank you so much. I promise my father won’t be alone again. Let us give you a ride.”

Anna said goodbye and hurried to the office. The meeting had already started, but no one paid her any attention.

The day passed in a blur. Anna couldn’t concentrate. After lunch, an envelope lay on her desk. Inside — a note with an address and time for a meeting. Sender — a large company, “StroyInvest.”

Anna knew the company but didn’t understand who could have invited her. Curiosity got the better of her. During her lunch break, she went to the address.

A modern building of glass and concrete. On the top floor, Sergius greeted her. He invited her to sit.
“Surprised?” he smiled.

“To be honest, yes.”

“Yesterday, you helped my father selflessly. These days, few people stop to help a stranger,” he said. “And I value people who have compassion.”

Sergius took out a folder and placed it in front of her.
“I’d like to offer you a job at my company: double your current salary, a company apartment, and great career prospects.”

Anna quickly reviewed the terms.
“All this because of what happened yesterday?”

“I looked over your resume. You’re an excellent professional. And what happened yesterday only confirmed your strong human values.”

Anna asked for some time to think it over.

A week later, she was already working at “StroyInvest.” She was appreciated and her opinions were heard. She and Sergius began spending more and more time together.

At first, the meetings were work-related. Then came lunches, walks. One day, he invited her to dinner at a restaurant. They grew closer — more than just colleagues. A sense of connection developed between them, hard to describe in words.

During one of their walks by the river, Sergius admitted:
“You know, I’m glad my father got lost that day.”

Anna smiled. She was also grateful for that chance meeting. Since then, her life had changed.

The conversations became more and more personal. Sergiusz was interested in her thoughts, memories, favorite books. All of it turned into something more.

One day he said:

— You are special, Anna. It’s rare to meet someone with such a heart.

Anna blushed. She had always thought of herself as ordinary.

Soon, Sergiusz began inviting her to important meetings, introducing her not only as an employee but as someone he trusted. Colleagues noticed it, but no one commented.

Spring gave way to summer. Workdays alternated with walks by the shore. One day, he invited Anna to the countryside. A spacious house, cozy interior — a warm atmosphere.

— Dad likes to come here on weekends — explained Sergiusz.

Wiktor greeted Anna warmly. He looked cheerful, recognized her, and was pleased.

— My son says you’re working with us now — he said, pouring tea on the veranda.

Time passed peacefully. Walks, conversations under the stars… Anna didn’t even notice when she fell in love. Sergiusz turned out to be tender, attentive — completely different from how people spoke about him at work.

A year later, they got married. The ceremony was modest, in the same house outside the city.

Anna moved in with Sergiusz. He gave her complete freedom:

— This is your home too now. Do as you wish.

Anna took care of the garden. She hadn’t had that opportunity before. Now roses, peonies, and lilies bloomed beneath the windows.

A large library appeared in the house. Sergiusz supported her love for books and helped her collect a set of rare editions. Anna was fulfilling her dreams.

In the evenings, the whole family would gather on the terrace. Dinners took place in a calm, warm atmosphere. Wiktor became part of their lives.

He and Anna became friends. They often worked together in the garden or simply sat in silence on the bench, watching the sunset.

— You know, Anna — he once said — I’m grateful to fate for that day in the park. You brought happiness to both me and my son.

Anna often returned in her thoughts to that day. The sharp wind, the lost old man, her decision to stop… Everything changed then.

Sometimes, everything begins with one simple, kind act. And that’s enough for life to take a new path.
