Aleks was returning home from another business trip.
Business travel had become not only a routine for him but also a way to escape reality. After the divorce, he and his wife still lived in the same apartment – selling it wasn’t easy, and reaching an agreement was even harder. He tried not to interfere in his ex-wife’s life and just waited for things to settle somehow.
She was the one handling the sale, claiming that there were no interested buyers. Aleks didn’t argue – he was absorbed in work and preferred to stay out of domestic conflicts. The apartment had stopped being a place of rest for him, so he extended his trips more and more often just to avoid returning too quickly.
And all of this was because Klara had started throwing frequent parties in the apartment. Loud music, laughter, strangers – that was her way of pushing Aleks out. She didn’t hide the fact that she dreamed of living there alone, and all her behavior boiled down to one thing: making the atmosphere unbearable. At first, Aleks endured it in silence, hoping the situation would resolve itself, but over time, he simply had enough.

That evening, he was driving slowly, enjoying the rare silence in his head, when he noticed a woman standing next to a broken-down car on the roadside. Without hesitation, he stopped.
— I’m sorry — she said, embarrassed. — The car suddenly stalled, and I’m in a hurry to get to a meeting. I have no idea what to do.
Aleks called a tow truck, offered her a ride, and… didn’t feel the usual exhaustion from interacting with another person. On the contrary — he felt relieved. The woman introduced herself as Emma. She was polite, a bit embarrassed by the situation, but grateful for the help.
When he asked where exactly he should take her, Emma gave him an address he knew all too well — it was his own home.
— Excuse me, are you going to see Klara? — he asked, surprised.
— Yes… She invited everyone from our fitness club for a small get-together. I barely know anyone, but I decided to stop by — she replied.

For a moment, Aleks was confused, but then he honestly explained that Klara was his ex-wife and that they still lived under the same roof.
Emma looked uncomfortable.
— I feel awkward. She talked a lot about a “problematic ex” she’s afraid of. And you… well, you don’t look like that kind of person — she added with a gentle smile.
Aleks laughed.
— Honestly, I’d rather not go home right now. Maybe we could grab a coffee on the way?
Emma hesitated for a moment, then nodded.
At the café, they talked about life, travels, work, and everyday things. With each passing minute, Aleks felt the tension of the past months fading away. Emma listened with genuine interest and shared her own stories. She was intelligent, calm, and had an inner glow that immediately inspired sympathy.

They no longer mentioned Klara. They simply enjoyed the conversation, the evening city, and the unexpected warmth in their hearts.
Since then, they began messaging each other. Sometimes they met, took walks, talked about movies and books. No one was in a hurry, but a true understanding was growing between them.
At some point, Aleks realized: he no longer wanted to return to a place where there was no peace. The noise, parties, and tension were wearing him down. He packed his things, wished Klara well, and left her the apartment, deciding to start over. No arguments, no blame. He simply let go.
Several months passed. Now Aleks lives in another neighborhood. He often sees Emma, and their relationship is growing closer with each passing day. They don’t rush into decisions, but there is something genuine in every day they spend together.
Sometimes life takes an unexpected turn — and maybe it’s in those turns that the most important things begin.
