A 75-year-old man ordered 14 bottles of mineral water every day. The courier began to suspect something was wrong and called the police. But when the door was opened, everyone was surprised…
My name is Manoj, and in a small town in the state of Uttar Pradesh, I work as a mineral water delivery person for a small agency.
The job is tiring, but it provides a steady income. Among many of my clients, there was one elderly man who left an unforgettable impression on me.
He ordered 14 bottles of 20-liter mineral water every day. Every day, without fail.
When I first received his order, I thought he might run a restaurant or supply water to a group of people.
However, when I arrived at the given address, I saw a small, old house at the end of a deserted street.
It was strange that he wouldn’t let me inside. He would slightly open the door, leave an envelope with money, and I would place the 14 bottles in front of the door and leave.
No sound came from inside. I wondered how an elderly man living alone could use so much water every day.
After about two weeks, the situation became even more suspicious. Usually, a large family uses one or two bottles a week, but this elderly man – 14 per day. One day, I quietly asked:
— Sir, why do you need so much water?
He just smiled faintly, said nothing, and silently closed the door. There was something mysterious in that smile that troubled me for a long time.
I began to worry: is someone taking advantage of his kindness? Is something strange happening in that house? After much thought, I decided to call the police at 112 and report the matter.

The next day, I went to his house with a few police officers from the local station. When I knocked, the elderly man calmly came out. But when the police asked to look inside, he hesitated slightly, then slowly nodded.
The door opened a little… and we were all speechless. Inside, there was nothing frightening. On the contrary – dozens of large plastic bottles were neatly lined up, filled with clean mineral water.
On each bottle, it was carefully written: “For neighbors,” “For the elementary school,” “For the PHC health center,” “For the Anganwadi preschool,” “For the Hanuman temple at the market”…
The police and I were moved. When the elderly man saw our faces, he smiled gently and said:
— I am already old, I cannot help much. But I know that poor people in this area do not have access to clean water.
That’s why I order so much water and every day ask the neighborhood children to deliver it. The needy receive drinking water for free.
Hearing this, tears came to my eyes. It turned out that the elderly man had quietly been doing charity work all along.
Those 14 bottles of water a day were his way of showing love – for the poor, for children thirsty on hot days.
One of the police officers, touched, asked:
— You do something so good. But why didn’t you tell anyone, even though so many people asked about it?
The elderly man smiled gently, his voice trembling:
— I don’t want to draw attention to myself. As long as everyone has clean drinking water – I am satisfied.
We learned that he had been a soldier in the Indian army. He had participated in a war and knew the value of every sip of water.
As he grew older, he began to spend his pension on buying mineral water and distributing it to people in the area.

That day, both the police and I were deeply moved. The image of that 75-year-old man – thin, yet with a kind heart – stayed in my memory forever.
From that moment on, I was no longer just a “water delivery person.” I began actively helping him distribute the water and share it with the people.
Gradually, many residents of the town learned about this story and joined in. Many people started donating to help continue his work.
After a month, when I returned, I saw his yard come to life. Many children came with bottles, laughing and chatting carefreely.
Next to them stood the elderly man with gray hair, his eyes shining with joy.
And suddenly I realized: sometimes behind something strange lies something truly good.
If I hadn’t started to suspect and called the police back then, we would never have known that behind those slightly open doors was a heart full of compassion.
Every time I think of the “75-year-old man who ordered 14 bottles of water daily,” my heart fills with warmth.
Amid the everyday chaos, there are still people who quietly do good and make the world a kinder and more trusting place.
