LIFE STORIES

The woman left some change for the old lady every day, but one day, as she bent down to give it to her, the old lady grabbed her hand and said:
“You’ve done so much good for me… don’t go home today.” 🤔😱

After a difficult divorce, Suzanne, a thirty-five-year-old woman with a tired but determined look, had just started a new job and took the same route every morning from her apartment to the subway.

At the very beginning of the street, near a pharmacy kiosk, a thin old woman with gray hair, wearing a tattered coat, had been sitting for over two months, with a worn rug and a tin cup in front of her. Suzanne never went unnoticed: she would slip a ten-pound note, a handful of coins, sometimes even a note if her salary arrived on time.

The old woman always nodded quietly, as if expressing a gratitude that didn’t need to be spoken aloud. This gesture repeated day after day – a habit that had become a kind of silent morning ritual, almost an integral part of Suzanne’s route.

That morning, everything started in the same way. A fine rain fell, the asphalt gleamed, people hurried past without raising their eyes. Suzanne mechanically dug into her pocket, searched for coins, bent down – but before she could slip them into the box, the old woman suddenly grabbed her wrist.

Her fingers were dry and bony, but surprisingly strong. Suzanne looked up – the old woman’s gaze was completely different, no longer calm and submissive, but filled with anxiety and almost panic.

“My daughter… listen carefully,” she whispered, not letting go of her hand. “You’ve helped me so much… Let me do something for you. Don’t go home tonight. Under no circumstances. Spend the night wherever you want: at a friend’s, in a hotel, even in the subway… but above all, don’t return to your apartment. Promise me.”

Suzanne was taken aback, so surprised that she forgot to straighten up. A flow of people passed around them; no one heard their conversation in the cold morning air. The old woman released her hand as abruptly as she had grabbed it, lowering her eyes, as if the conversation were over.

Suzanne walked away slowly, but the entire way to the subway, she felt a growing sense of dread.

The woman left change for the old woman every day, but one day, as she bent down to give it to her, the old woman grabbed her hand: “You’ve done so much for me… don’t go home today.”

She was restless all day at the office. Everything seemed suspicious: a colleague’s strange question about her neighborhood, documents disappearing without a trace even though she had carefully organized them. With each passing hour, a weight settled on her, as if an invisible hand were gripping her heart.

That evening, when she went out, the rain had already given way to fog, and the old woman’s words echoed louder than the city traffic.

Suzanne stopped at the crosswalk, took out her phone, and almost mechanically booked a bed at the nearest inn. She didn’t return home that night.

The next morning, Suzanne arrived at the old woman’s place earlier than usual. The woman raised her head, as if she had been waiting. That morning, she said something that made Suzanne’s hair stand on end 😱😱

That night, while Suzanne stayed at the hotel, her apartment on the fourth floor was completely destroyed by fire. Firefighters reported that the door had been forced and that the fire had started in multiple places.

Then came an explanation that made Suzanne shiver. The old woman recounted that two days earlier, she had overheard two men following Suzanne after work, discussing a plan to “finish her off that night” and “discreetly destroy the apartment.”

Fearing she would be chased away if she intervened, she had waited until the next morning to warn them without witnesses.

Later, it was discovered that the two men were her ex-husband and a friend of his, who had decided to get rid of Suzanne to take her apartment.

And it was only thanks to the old woman, her anxiety, and her courage that Suzanne survived.
