After my daughter’s death, at the age of 70, I became the sole guardian of my four grandchildren, but six months later I received a package from my daughter, and its contents destroyed my entire life 😢😨

My daughter’s name was Elena. She had a husband named Alex and four children. The oldest grandson was nine years old, the twins were six, and the youngest had just turned four.
One morning Elena and Alex were preparing to go to another city for work. It was supposed to be a short two-day business trip, so they left the children with me.
I walked them to the car. Elena hugged me and said:
— Mom, don’t worry. We’ll be back the day after tomorrow.
I had no idea that those would be the last words I would ever hear from my daughter.
The car they were traveling in got into an accident.
When they called me and told me about the crash, at first I simply didn’t believe it. That day I lost my daughter. And that same day I became the only adult in the lives of four small children.
I was seventy-one years old, and suddenly I found myself a mother again. The first weeks were the hardest. The children woke up at night and cried.
During the day I tried to stay strong. I cooked, took them to school and kindergarten, checked their homework, washed their clothes, and tried to make their lives feel at least a little normal.
My pension barely covered food and bills. So after a month, I got a job again.
Every morning I woke up before everyone else, prepared breakfast, and got the children ready for school. My body ached, my hands were tired, but when I looked at my grandchildren, I knew I had no right to give up.
Six months passed like that.
We were slowly getting used to the new reality. And then one morning everything changed again.
The children had already left, and I was getting ready for work when someone suddenly knocked on the door.
A courier was standing at the doorstep.
— Good morning. We have a delivery for you.
I was surprised. I hadn’t ordered anything. But when I looked at the label, my heart suddenly began to pound.
On the box it said: “To my mom.”
I stared at that huge box for a long time. Only one thought was spinning in my head: where had it come from?
Finally, I took a knife and carefully cut the tape. On top there was an envelope.
The moment I saw the handwriting, my breath caught.

I recognized it immediately. It was my daughter’s handwriting. The first line made me lean on the table so I wouldn’t fall.
“Mom, if you are reading this letter, it means the thing I feared most has happened. It means I am no longer alive.”
I felt everything in my chest tighten.
I took a deep breath and forced myself to keep reading.
“There are things I never told you about. I was afraid to speak about them while I was alive. But now you must know the truth. When you open the box, you will understand everything.”
I slowly placed the letter on the table and looked into the box again.
My heart was beating so loudly that I could hear every beat. I forgot how to breathe when I fully opened the box… 😱😨

“I hesitated for a long time to tell you the truth. But if this letter has reached you, it means there is no time left. Mom, our death might not have been an accident.”
I felt a chill run down my spine.
“My husband accidentally found out about people who were involved in major illegal deals. He wanted to pass the information to the police. After that, we began to notice strange things: unfamiliar cars near the house, calls from unknown numbers, people who were watching us.”
I put the letter down for a moment to catch my breath.
“We were afraid for the children. That’s why I prepared everything in advance that you will now find in the box. If something happens to us, you must know the truth.”
My heart was beating faster and faster. Slowly, I looked inside the box.

Inside there were thick folders with documents, flash drives, bank envelopes, and a small metal key.
I picked up the letter again.
“There is all the evidence on the flash drives. And a bank account has been opened in your name. The money there is for the children — their future, their education, and their life. I started saving it many years ago because I was always afraid that one day we might have to protect our family.”
The last line made me close my eyes.
“Mom, if you are reading this letter, it means you are now the only person I can trust with our children. Take care of them. And please find out the truth about what happened to us.”
I sat on the couch for a long time, unable to move.
Now I understood that six months ago my family had not only lost a daughter.
