A student son went to the prison to see his father, to show off his honors diploma and fulfill his long-held dream, but what the guard did came as a surprise to everyone šÆšØ
When Mark received his long-awaited honors diploma, he just stood for a few seconds, staring at it as if he couldnāt believe it was really happening. Behind this moment were years of hard studying, sleepless nights, side jobs, fatigue, and constant stress.
He was doing it not only for himself. He was doing it for his mother, who always said that one day she would sit in the audience and applaud him. But she never lived to see that day.
And there was his father.
His father, who ended up in prison because of someone elseās treachery. His best friend pulled off a scheme and then disappeared, leaving everything on him. Markās father didnāt believe he was being set up until the very end, and when he realized it ā it was already too late. Court, verdict, years behind bars. And only one dream stayed with him all that time ā to see his son in a graduation gown and be there on that day.
But on the day of the graduation ceremony, his seat in the hall was empty.
Mark knew this. And thatās why, as soon as the ceremony ended, he didnāt go celebrate with his classmates. He got in the car and drove to a place he least wanted to go on such a day ā the prison.

When he was led into the visiting room, he sat down at the table and held the red diploma folder in his hands. His heart was pounding as if he were taking an exam all over again.
The door opened.
His father entered slowly, as if afraid this was a dream. When he saw his son in the gown, his face first froze, then twitched sharply. His lips trembled, and his eyes filled with tears. He stepped closer to the glass and cautiously raised his hand, as if trying to touch him.
ā You⦠you really did it?.. ā his voice broke.
Mark smiled and showed him the diploma.
ā I did it, Dad.
His father looked at him as if standing before him was not just a son, but his entire life, his hope, his redemption. Tears ran down his cheeks, but he didnāt even try to wipe them. At that moment, he was truly happy.
ā Iām sorry I wasnāt there⦠ā he said quietly. ā I wanted so muchā¦
Mark shook his head, though inside he felt his chest tighten.
ā Youāre here. Thatās what matters.
They looked at each other for a long time through the glass, separated by just a few centimeters, but really by a whole world. The father raised his hand to the glass several times, as if trying to embrace his son even like that.
And at that moment, a guard approached.
ā Timeās up, we have to go ā he said briefly.
The words hit like a blow. The father lowered his head, took a deep breath, and slowly began to stand. He didnāt want to leave. Mark also stood, without breaking eye contact.

But then something happened that none of them expected. š²šØ The continuation of the story can be found in the first comment šš
The guard suddenly stopped. He looked at them, then at the glass, then back at the man. For a brief moment, something human flickered in his gaze.
ā Come with me, ā he said quietly to the prisoner.
They went out into the corridor. Mark stayed standing, not understanding what was happening.
A few seconds later, the door on the other side opened. The guard removed the handcuffs from the man and stepped slightly aside.
ā You have a minute, ā he said softly.
The father froze, as if he couldnāt believe it. Then he took a step.
Mark couldnāt hold back and ran to him.
They embraced tightly, as if trying to make up for all the years that had been taken from them. The father pressed his son to him and quietly wept, no longer holding back. Mark didnāt hide his tears either, burying his face in his fatherās shoulder.

The guard stood nearby. He turned away, but still secretly wiped his eyes.
After a minute, he quietly said:
ā Thatās enough⦠time to go.
But his voice sounded completely different now. The father put the handcuffs back on, but now there was something bright in his gaze. He looked at his son, gave a small smile, and nodded.
As he was being led away, Mark stood holding the diploma, but now that diploma meant even more to him.
Later, the guard received a reprimand for breaking the rules. But that day, he understood one thing for himself ā sometimes humanity is more important than any instructions.
