Next to them was the bride’s dog — a large brown dog. They had been inseparable since her teenage years, and on this day the bride dreamed of having him by her side.
Throughout the entire ceremony, the dog behaved perfectly: he sat calmly, didn’t disturb anyone, just watched everything around him, as if he understood how important this day was for his owner.
But as soon as the bride and groom stepped forward to walk toward the altar, everything suddenly changed.
The dog suddenly tensed up, jumped to his feet, and started barking loudly. At first, everyone thought he had simply gotten scared or overly excited about something. The bride tried to calm him down, quietly called his name, bent down to him, and stroked him.
But the dog wouldn’t listen. He became even more frantic.
The dog jumped up, grabbed the hem of the bride’s dress with its teeth, and started pulling her backward. The barking became even louder, sharper, almost hysterical. People in the hall exchanged glances; some were already getting irritated, while others whispered in fear. The groom tried to pull the dog away, but it seemed to feel nothing around it and kept dragging the bride away from the altar.
It looked as if the animal had simply gone mad. The bride was already close to losing her balance while trying to free herself when suddenly… 😨

A dull cracking sound rang out.
At first, it was barely audible, as if from far away. Then came another, louder one. The floor beneath their feet trembled slightly, and at that moment the dog growled and pulled even harder, practically dragging the bride back.
And then everything happened in seconds.
The ground shook so violently that people couldn’t stay on their feet. From the dome came a deafening cracking noise, as if something massive was breaking. People screamed, some rushed toward the exit.
And right above the spot where the bride and groom had been standing just a second earlier, a part of the old dome collapsed.
Stones, dust, debris — everything came crashing down. Chaos erupted in the church. Some people were crying, some were trying to get out, and others just stood there in shock, unable to understand what had happened.
And the bride… she stood aside, holding onto her dress, which was still clenched in the dog’s teeth.
The dog was breathing heavily, but it was no longer barking. It was simply looking at her.
Only then did everyone understand. A very strong earthquake had occurred. In other places, as later became known, many people were injured. Buildings collapsed, and many were left trapped under the rubble.
If it hadn’t been for the dog, the bride and groom would have remained standing directly under the dome and might not have survived.
And that day was remembered by everyone not as a wedding day… but as the day a dog saved two lives.
