In the eighth month of pregnancy, the doctor noticed worrying changes during the ultrasound and asked the woman to stay in the hospital and not return to her husband.

LIFE STORIES

In the eighth month of pregnancy, a woman went for an ultrasound, but as soon as the doctor looked at the screen, she said in horror, “You cannot go home. Leave your husband.”

When Laura found out she was pregnant, it seemed that everything was going wonderfully.

She was twenty-nine years old and had dreamed of having a child for a long time. Her husband, Viktor, seemed like the most caring man in the world.

The first months of pregnancy went peacefully. Her test results were normal, the doctors found no problems, and during every ultrasound, Laura was told that the baby was developing properly.

But soon, something strange happened.

In her eighth month, Laura scheduled another ultrasound. Viktor wanted to go with her, but that morning he unexpectedly received a call from work.

“I can’t go with you, darling. But call me immediately after the examination, okay?”

Laura smiled and told him that everything would be fine.

At the clinic, Laura was seen by a doctor named Marta. She asked Laura to lie down on the examination bed, applied gel to her abdomen, and turned on the machine.

At first, everything looked completely normal. Marta carefully watched the screen, slowly moved the probe across Laura’s abdomen, and wrote something down in the medical records.

Laura tried to see the baby on the monitor, but she couldn’t understand exactly what the doctor was seeing.

Suddenly, the doctor froze. Her face turned pale.

She leaned closer to the screen, changed the settings several times, and quietly said:

“My God…”

Laura’s hands immediately began to tremble.

“What happened, Doctor? Is something wrong with the baby?”

Marta did not answer. She looked at the monitor again, then turned off the sound and said very calmly:

“Laura, you cannot go home. Leave your husband.”

The young woman sat up in terror, supporting herself on her elbows.

“What? Why are you saying that?”

Just then, the doctor turned the monitor toward her and showed her something so disturbing that Laura nearly fainted from shock.

“I understand that this may seem unbelievable to you,” the doctor said. “But you must stay in the hospital. Do not call him. Do not answer his messages. You must trust only me.”

“You have to explain to me what is happening!”

Marta sighed heavily.

“I’ll explain everything. But first, we need to perform some additional tests.”

Laura was immediately transferred to the ward. They took her blood, connected an IV, and attached her to a monitor that tracked the baby’s heartbeat.

Several hours passed. Viktor called several times. At first, he sent affectionate messages, asked if everything was okay, and said that he was worried.

However, later his messages changed.

“Why aren’t you answering me?”

“Who are you talking to there?”

“I’m coming to the hospital.”

Laura wanted to call him, but Marta took her phone away.

“Please don’t do that. He is the one who tried to hurt you.”

Laura didn’t understand anything.

“What do you mean?”

The doctor placed the test results in front of her.

“We found a substance in your blood that is gradually poisoning your body. It isn’t an ordinary medication or food poisoning. The substance had been accumulating in your body for several weeks.”

Laura turned pale.

“But how is that possible?”

“We don’t know for certain yet. However, during the ultrasound, I noticed that the baby had been receiving too little oxygen for quite some time. Not just for a few hours, but much longer. That’s exactly why I became so frightened.”

At that moment, a nurse entered the room and informed them that Viktor was at the entrance to the ward. He was demanding permission to see his wife.

Laura closed her eyes.

“It’s impossible that he did this,” she whispered. “Every evening, he prepared tea for me. He told me it was a herbal drink that helped me fall asleep and made me feel less nervous.”

Marta immediately became concerned.

“Did he drink the tea with you?”

Laura thought for a few seconds.

“No. He always said he couldn’t drink it because it made him sleepy.”

The doctor immediately called the police.

During questioning, when Viktor was asked about the tea, he smiled and said that he had bought it at an ordinary pharmacy.

Tests showed that the herbal mixture contained a powerful active substance that, in small doses, caused weakness, drowsiness, and difficulty breathing. With prolonged use, it could harm both the mother and the baby.

After several days, Laura began to feel better. The baby was saved, but the doctors decided that she would have to give birth prematurely.

One day, while Laura was lying in her hospital room, Marta came in to check her blood pressure.

“Why did you tell me to leave my husband immediately?” Laura asked.

The doctor remained silent for a few seconds and then replied:

“Because I had already seen similar test results. In another woman. But by then, it was already too late.”

Laura squeezed her hand tightly.

A month later, she gave birth to a baby girl — tiny, but healthy.
