When we put our lives online for the world to see, we become vulnerable to judgment.
People have reacted negatively to this young couple since they enjoy sharing photos of themselves together online.
However, their response to the criticism is clever and serves as a sobering lesson on the value of standing firm in one’s convictions.
The story of Matt and Brittany Montgomery is one of those that happen all the time but remains remarkable because of the people involved.
The two met, fell in love, and immediately began building a life together.
The couple’s story may sound familiar, but there’s a twist: the man is much larger than the woman.
Brittany has struggled her whole life to feel like she fits in. She didn’t feel secure with her dominant parents and often left conversations feeling drained.
Because of this, she started to dislike her body and feel inadequate.
As a plus-size woman, she encountered two types of men: those who wanted her to lose weight and those who found her curves sexually attractive.
Due to her bad luck in relationships, she considered ending her search for love entirely.
But fate had other plans for her! She met Matt Montgomery online in August 2020. Their bodies couldn’t have been more different, but their spirits were connected like never before.
Brittany reflected: ‘I was a bit skeptical at first. I’ve been in relationships where guys told me they would leave if I didn’t start dieting or trying to lose weight. That affected my self-esteem, and at one point, I began exercising and trying to change my size.
However, they were confident in their mutual love. After Matt’s proposal on January 30, 2022, the couple immediately began planning their future.
They feel completely comfortable with each other, but they discussed the external perception of their relationship.
When asked about the comments on his Instagram post, Matt said, ‘People comment on Instagram and suggest that I’m not big or masculine enough for her.’ He added, ‘I notice that people watch us when we walk down the street…’
They have nothing but love for each other, and no matter how many people criticize their relationship because they don’t understand it, it doesn’t affect them.
Matt’s previous interactions with ‘normal-sized’ women didn’t go well.
The way Brittany makes him feel led Matt to the conclusion that she is, in fact, his soulmate. He loves her for who she is and works hard to ensure her happiness.
He is not one to hold back in showing his affection for her; he recently said, ‘You are valuable, you deserve infinite love every day and more. The way I look at you and feel for you, and the way you look at me and feel for me, is how I know we are meant to be together.
He captions the photo of him and his wife with the unpleasant comments others have left on photos of other couples, demonstrating his love for his partner and the depth of their relationship beyond what meets the eye. What a great response to the critics!
The couple is working to normalize relationships between people of different sizes. She expressed her hope that ‘mixed-weight relationships would become more common and the norm,’ saying, ‘I wish they were.’
Just last month, the young couple announced that they are expecting their second child, Lakelyn, in September 2023. We wish them all the best.
Finding true love and doing what makes you happy is not subject to strict rules.
No matter what, we should all find ways to embrace and love each other.
