Unless you’ve been living under the biggest rock in the world, you know that Ivanka’s father, Donald Trump, ever-entertaining and always controversial, officially took the oath of office as president earlier this week. This day marked the start of Trump’s second term as President of the United States, after the real estate mogul served from 2017 to 2021.
As expected, nearly every aspect of Trump’s big day was scrutinized by users around the world. In the days following the swearing-in, Elon Musk’s alleged “Nazi salute” was brought up, Melania Trump’s hat choice was debated, and lip readers tried to figure out what Barron Trump said to Joe Biden.
In short, little went unnoticed on Inauguration Day, and it seems that even something as innocent as a dress sparked a heated online debate.
The dress in question was worn by Ivanka Trump, Donald Trump’s daughter, who served as his advisor during his first term.
However, we want to publicly state that no one should ever be criticized or subjected to criticism for what they wear (within reason, of course).
But the internet will always do what it does best: provide a fertile ground for comments that don’t care about morality, decency, or anything else. In other words, people will always comment on hairstyles, clothing choices, behavior, speech style, etc.
A Sabrina-inspired look designed by Givenchy As mentioned above, it was Ivanka Trump who angered some internet users with her outfit choice at the Liberty Ball on Inauguration Day. Inspired by one of the most influential female icons of the last century, Ivanka wore a reimagined version of the dress Audrey Hepburn wore in the 1954 film Sabrina.
The dress, originally designed by Hubert de Givenchy, is distinctive and draws even more attention. According to some sources, Ivanka’s version, a white dress with black floral embroidery and a short train, was said to have been crafted by the French fashion house Givenchy.
Ivanka also wore a pair of black opera gloves up to her elbows, high heels, a diamond choker, and an updo—accessories almost identical to those in Hepburn’s original version.
The internet goes wild: Praise and criticism As is often the case these days, even though Ivanka looked stunning in her dress, some people took it upon themselves to criticize her.
“The more I look at the details, the more ridiculous it becomes,” wrote one particularly critical user
Another person added, “The texture and embroidery of Ivanka’s version are caricatured and lack sophistication. Hepburn is incomparable.”
A third person decided to denounce the alleged link with Hepburn, writing, “Audrey Hepburn would curse them all. She survived World War II and fought against everything the Trump family represents, only to see her dress used in this way. It’s really sad.”

“Audrey would have despised Ivanka and her family,” said another.
Of course, this only supports half of the argument, and it must be said that many people praised Ivanka’s beauty and her decision to wear this dress that evening.
