“We don’t tell you what to think,” responds Whoopi Goldberg to those who wish to “take “The View” off” TV because of politics.
Goldberg supported the Hot Topics table’s freedom of speech, frequently to the dismay of conservative viewers.

Who is Whoopi Goldberg? Getting Out of the View? To be honest, girl, anyone who believes that is possible is in danger.
In a passionate speech on Thursday’s episode, the EGOT-winning actress addressed the conservative haters of the talk show, many of whom post daily calls for its cancellation on social media. This came after the panel discussed California Governor Gavin Newsom’s recent interactions with political rivals and his opposition to trans women participating in women’s sports.
Goldberg concluded the discussion of interacting with those who hold different opinions by saying, “People assume that we believe whatever they believe that we believe.” “People think they understand my thoughts and beliefs. They don’t. Hearing individuals speak is one approach to find out what they think.
Goldberg then focused on the show’s detractors.
“People always say, ‘You should take The View off television,’ which is one of the things they would love to see.” Do you know why? because we provide you with a chance. We say, “This is what I think,” rather than telling you what to think. Goldberg went on. That’s how you have the conversation when we do that. You know it’s not personal?
Calling that type of “name-calling” the “difference” between ordinary discourse and what occurs at The View table, she went on to say that “it becomes an awful thing when people become personal about you or your family.”
That’s not what we do here. People do it to us, and they want to believe that we’re doing the same to them. However, we’re not,” Goldberg stated.
Nevertheless, The View frequently garners media attention for its conflicts amongst cohosts, some of which have been very heated among the current group.
Co-hosts of “The View”
Republican panelist Alyssa Farah Griffin and Sunny Hostin got into a heated argument in June 2023 over their differing opinions about Donald Trump, for whom Griffin had worked in the White House in 2019. When Hostin carried on with her notion, Griffin grew obviously irritated.

Before the broadcast moved to a break, Griffin remarked, “Well, Sunny likes to make it personal with me.” He later called the development a “disgrace.” Will you give me an opportunity to respond? Really, this is ridiculous. This isn’t the purpose of the show. Let a woman speak; this is Barbara Walters’ legacy!
Meghan McCain, a former cohost, has also referred to her coworkers as “crazy old people.”
ABC broadcasts The View weekdays at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. PT.
