Dance can be surprising, especially when tradition meets modernity. That was exactly the case during the performance of twin sisters, Madison and Morgan Mallum, at the USA Clogging Championships in 2013.
Clogging is a folk dance originating from Irish culture, known for its rhythmic and precise footwork. However, the girls decided to bring something new to the classic style by dancing to the song Hit the Ground Runnin’ by country artist Keith Urban.
Dressed in plaid shirts and special clogging shoes, they captivated the audience with their energy from the very first seconds. Their movements were precise and synchronized, and the impressive spins and jumps seamlessly combined traditional technique with a modern style.
What especially caught the viewers’ attention were the movements of the upper body – rarely seen in classic clogging. These added expression and emotion to the performance, making it truly unforgettable.
The audience appreciated their talent, recognizing both their respect for tradition and their courage to experiment. The dance sparked a lively discussion – some talked about the roots of clogging, while others shared teaching experiences and expressed joy that traditional styles can evolve over time.
