He didn’t want to see his mother at his wedding — but her last gift changed everything.
On the day of the wedding, Leo looked impeccable. The navy-blue suit fit perfectly, emphasizing his posture and confidence. He stared at his reflection in the mirror for a long time and smiled.
That suit cost 10,000 dollars.
His mother, Marta, had been saving for it for three years. She worked in a cleaning company — waking up early, returning late, taking extra shifts. Leo knew about it. But today he tried not to think about it.
The next day he was going to marry Sofia — the daughter of an influential businessman. For him, it was a ticket to another world. A world of great opportunities, serious connections, and an impeccable reputation.
“We need to talk about the wedding,” he told his mother the day before.
Marta looked at him with concern.
“What happened?”
He sighed heavily.
“There will be very important people there. Politicians, Sofia’s family partners. We told them you are a manager. If someone finds out that you work as a cleaner… unnecessary questions will start. I don’t need that right now.”
She turned pale.
“Are you asking me not to come?”
He avoided her gaze.

“I’m asking you to think about my future. You always said you would do everything for me.”
After these words, he left.
The door closed, and Marta sat in silence for a long time. Then she stood up. She didn’t intend to make a scene. But she also didn’t want to hide.
On the day of the wedding, she put on her only navy-blue dress and arrived at the restaurant.
A quartet was playing in the hall. The guests were laughing, and the waiters were serving champagne. At the main table sat the bride’s father — a confident, powerful man. Next to him was his long-time partner, a well-known billionaire.
Leo stood at the microphone, thanking the guests and making jokes. Everything was going perfectly.
Until someone noticed Marta.
A whisper spread across the hall. Leo saw her — and panic appeared in his eyes.
He took the microphone.
“Security, escort this woman out.”
Silence fell over the hall.
“Leo…” Marta said quietly. “I just wanted to wish you well.”
He looked into her eyes — and chose his career.
“This is a misunderstanding. Please, escort her out.”
Security approached. Marta did not resist.
But before leaving, she calmly walked to the table with the gifts and placed a small, old box on it.
“This is for you. As a keepsake,” she said.

And she left.
The reception continued. The music started playing again, and the guests pretended that nothing had happened. But Leo could no longer concentrate.
Later he entered the newlyweds’ suite and opened the box.
Inside were documents.
His birth certificate. Medical records. An envelope with the results of a DNA test.
He unfolded the paper.
Probability of paternity — 99.9%.
His hands began to tremble.
At the bottom lay an old photograph. Young Marta was laughing. Next to her stood the man Leo had just thanked from the stage — the same billionaire sitting at the main table.
And a letter.
“I couldn’t decide for a long time to tell you the truth. I thought he would never find out about you. But when I realized that I might not have time to say the most important thing, I decided that you must know who you are. I didn’t want to destroy your life. I only wanted you to know the truth.”
From downstairs came toasts raised for family and the future.
Leo slowly sat down on the edge of the bed.
Only then did he realize that by rejecting his mother, he might also have rejected his own name.
