A young man snatched a piece of bread from a homeless person’s hands, threw it on the ground, and began stomping on it with his feet. All the witnesses were shocked by the young man’s behavior, but soon something unexpected happened. 😨😢
A narrow city street stretched between old brick buildings. Near the trash bins stood an elderly homeless man in a dirty jacket and a worn-out hat. Beside him sat his dog — a large white mongrel that had eaten almost nothing for several days.
The last few days had been especially hard. The man and his dog wandered through courtyards and alleyways, looking into trash containers and trying to find at least something edible. Sometimes they found leftovers, sometimes nothing at all. They ate cold scraps, stale pieces, dirty food that an ordinary person would not even take in their hands. But when hunger squeezes your stomach, a person stops choosing.
That day, luck suddenly smiled on him. In one of the containers he noticed an almost whole loaf of bread. The bread looked fresh, as if it had been thrown away only recently. The man carefully picked it up, shook off the dirt, and looked at his find for a long time.
He sighed quietly and shook his head.
“People don’t even understand what they throw away…” he murmured to himself.
He probably thought that these people had never been in a situation where an ordinary piece of bread seems like a real treasure.
The man carefully broke the bread into two parts. He held out one piece to the dog. The dog gently took it with its teeth and immediately began to eat. The second piece the man wanted to eat himself. He had already brought the bread to his lips when suddenly quick footsteps sounded nearby.
A young man in a military uniform approached him.
Without saying a word, he sharply snatched the bread from the homeless man’s hands. Then he threw it onto the wet asphalt and began to stomp on it roughly with his feet.
People on the street froze. Someone stopped at the entrance to a shop, someone simply stood on the sidewalk and watched what was happening.
The man did not understand what was going on. He looked at the soldier with wide-open eyes.
“Why…” he said quietly.
But the young man did not answer and continued pressing the bread with his heavy boots until only wet crumbs were left.
The dog stepped aside and whimpered softly, as if it also felt the injustice of this scene.
People around began whispering.
— What is he doing?
— Why mock a person like that?
— He already has nothing…
The homeless man lowered his head. At that moment he felt not so much hunger as bitterness. It seemed to him that the world had finally become cruel and cold.

But suddenly the young man stopped. He looked at the man and calmly said:
— Wait here. Don’t go anywhere.
After these words, he turned around and quickly walked toward the nearest shop on the corner of the street.
People looked at each other, not understanding what was happening. A few minutes passed. And suddenly the young soldier appeared again from the shop. In his hands he carried two large bags.
He approached the homeless man and handed the bags to him.
— There is food here for you and for your dog. And warm clothes.
The man looked at him in confusion, not understanding why he had acted so cruelly at first.
The soldier sighed slightly and quietly added:
— I accidentally overheard the bakery owner talking to the seller. At night a rat got into their shop and ran over all the baked goods. They were going to throw this bread away. It could have been contaminated.
The man slowly lowered his gaze to the bags. Inside were fresh products, canned food, several loaves of bread, and a large bag of dog food. On top was a neatly folded warm jacket.
He raised his eyes again, but the young man was already walking away down the street.
The soldier did not turn around and said nothing more.
