Alice and Thomas met back in college.
He was an energetic guy with a knack for business — even then, he was interested in entrepreneurship and dreamed of having his own company. She was a quiet and intelligent student, studying linguistics, passionate about books, and dreaming of having a family.
A few years later, they got married. Soon after, their son Lukas was born. Alice gladly left her job to focus on motherhood. Later, little Sophie joined the family.
But taking care of the house and two children drained all her energy. Alice never complained, but the exhaustion kept building up. She suggested hiring some help — even just for a few hours a day. Thomas was against it:
— Motherhood is your main job. I take care of the business. Everything will be fine.

He was indeed growing his business. But at the same time, he kept buying new things for himself, going on weekend trips with his friends. And when Alice asked for a new hair dryer because the old one had broken down, he replied, “The old one still works.”
A few years passed. The kids grew older and started going to school. Alice began to feel increasingly lonely. She tried inviting Thomas for walks, suggested going to the theater — but he was always “too busy.”
Then one day, he simply said:
— I think we should separate. I don’t feel like I’m part of this family anymore.
Alice was left with two kids and a mountain of unanswered questions. The beginning was especially hard. She found a job at a supermarket, took night shifts, and did her best not to miss any precious moments with her children.

— Mom, can’t you be with us more often? — Sophie asked one day.
— I’ll try, sweetheart — Alice whispered.
And it was during that difficult time that luck, unexpectedly, came to her aid. Her late grandmother had invested small amounts in securities during her lifetime — something hardly anyone knew about. Now, it all had been passed on to Alice as an inheritance.
She didn’t start spending the money recklessly. First — courses. Then — the idea to open a small café next to the school her children attended.
Two years passed. The café became a cozy spot that locals loved to visit. Alice learned how to manage a team, make desserts, and even host literary evenings.
And one day, Thomas walked into her café. He almost didn’t recognize her.

— You work here? — he asked, surprised.
— Not exactly — Alice smiled. — This is my café. I opened it.
He stood there in silence, not knowing what to say.
And she went back to work — to her guests, to her children, to her new life. She didn’t blame anyone. She had simply learned to choose herself and keep moving forward.
Sometimes, even difficult circumstances can mark the beginning of a new, inspiring story. The most important thing is to believe in yourself and never give up.
